DEBORAH DONNELLY

Deborah Donnelly approached me at our old premises in Beverley and I immediately realized that she was a gifted artist, her work leapt out at me and I wanted her to join the Gallery there and then, however I was keen to launch Deborah at the new Gallery and in February of 2005 I went over to Dublin to see Deborah in her studio.

Whilst viewing her work I was taken by her natural style and her ability to apply paint to a canvas. Her broad-brush strokes technique that has been applied with the speed and confidence of an artist beyond her years. Her use of colour is again first class the variations of colour and the different tones create a warm glow to her work which emphasize the quality of the artist at work.

Deborah's choice of topics indicates her originality and brings a breath of fresh air to the viewer. One could say that the paintings are “good fun” and indeed they are but once the viewer really looks at the painting of the cow, chicken, dog etc one starts to understand the personality of the animal. This is the reason why her work is so eye-catching and allows the viewer's feelings to evolve with the painting.

Over the last two months the reaction to Deborah's work has been truly rapturous, and I can only see her going from strength to strength, I fully expect that clients who have purchased a Deborah Donnelly to be pleased with the painting for years to come and will consider it an investment well worth making.
